OCOchem’s founding mission is to use, not waste, CO₂ — converting it into a platform organic molecule at progressively lower cost than the fossil-fueled pathway for the same molecule. Formate is a precursor chemical carrying both carbon and hydrogen, used across crop preservation, de-icing, drilling fluids, water treatment, and as an emerging liquid carrier for hydrogen.
The process runs at ambient pressure and temperature on clean electricity, pairing carbon capture with electrolysis — a link the company describes as the missing piece of the circular carbon economy.

A proprietary modular cell stack that electrochemically bonds hydrogen from water with CO₂ to produce formate in salt or acid form. The company reports scaling the technology six times over roughly four and a half years, and commissioning a pilot plant using multiple industrial-scale cells producing over 200 kg of formate per day.
